Dr. Clara Bureau’s veterinary career started in the 1990’s in France where she worked in dairy cattle reproduction. After specializing in reproductive physiology during her Master’s degree in veterinary medicine in Toulouse, she embarked on a PhD program during which developed cutting-edge tools to study the chromosomes of cattle. After graduating in 2000, she moved to Canada to join the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph as a post-doctoral fellow to continue her work on the molecular genetics of different animal species. In 2004, she joined the Sunnybrook Health Research Centre where she worked on vascular biology and identify the role of novel regulators of the growth of blood vessels. After a fruitful 10-year research career, Dr. Bureau felt the need to go back to her natural calling, veterinary practice. She undertook the arduous process to obtain the right to practice veterinary medicine in Canada. In 2007, she started practicing as a companion animal practices across Ontario. In 2013, she acquired the Fraser MacDonald Animal Hospital where she has been practicing ever since. Dr. Bureau enjoys spending her free time studying to improve her skills, learning new languages (human and computer ones), exploring new countries and spending time with her husband (an animal nutritionist) and grown-up son (a talented musician).
